A Fun Beach Towel

Oops! I put the pictures in the wrong order.

There is a group of women, including my daughters, that share different things they see from time to time. They will buy the item for me to look at or share a gift that they think I can make. This is the latest of such items. A friend said that she had been given the neatest beach towel and thought about me when she got it. She brought it for me to see and measure. I said that I thought I could make it easily enough and so here is my first attempt. How nice it will be not to worry about your towel slipping off the back of your chair and there are pockets for you to put your keys, phone, etc. This would make a great graduation gift. I sure did get some funny looks while I was on the front porch with a beach towel draped over the rocker.

Welcome Spring

Saturday was the first day of spring. We woke up to a nice morning. We did some walking and then as the afternoon came, so did the clouds and wind. Sunday morning was very cold as we got ready for church. While going inside the church we saw a few snowflakes. Then yesterday afternoon it snowed for about an hour or so. There was a hummingbird at my feeder while it was snowing! What happened to spring? Today is a beautiful day with cool temperatures, once again a spring day. I am ready for spring to really be here so I decided to hang my welcome spring on the door. Do you think it will help? Hope so!

New Ribbon

Yesterday I mentioned that I would have liked green ribbon for the dresses I made. Well, I had a friend bring me green ribbon from Hobby Lobby in a nearby city. I changed the ribbon on the dresses and I put an initial on a covered button and made hair bows. Every little girl needs bows and if it is made to match her dress, all the better. My daughter tells me that we are worse in the south about the bows. One mother said the bigger the bow the bigger the dowry. Now I don't know about that.

Enjoy the spring weather because it sounds like we are about to have another taste of winter. Oh well, it shouldn't be too much longer and spring will be here for good.

Pillowcase Dresses

I am a list maker. I always had lists when I taught school and then at home. I still like to make them so I can mark things off as I accomplish them. Today I got to mark off 2 things. The first was that I filed our taxes. YEA! The second was that I finished these 2 dresses.

Now getting to the dresses. My husband and I do not have any grandchildren, but we have lots of great nieces and nephews. The latest addition on his side of the family is Hannah. Hannah Kate just turned 1 and was adopted from China. Her older sister, Lydia will be 3 in May. I usually make most of our baby gifts so I couldn't make a dress for Hannah and not one for Lydia. I chose pink and white seersucker fabric. I appliqued a flower and did their name in a bright green. I would have preferred to use a bright green ribbon for the tie.

Easter Towels

Eggs represent new life to me. Years ago when I was teaching first grade I had a parent that would bring an incubator and eggs. My class would watch each day to see if anything was happening. We would faithfully turn the eggs and then we would watch as the baby chicks hatched. It was so neat watching the baby chicks emerge all wet from the eggs. Easter is also a time we can reflect on new life that Christ can give to us. So that is one reason I love spring, Easter and making fun Easter towels.

Trains for Cade

I needed a baby gift and the baby's nursery is being decorated with trains. I had already chosen the train applique I wanted to use. I just needed to decide what I was going to make for the baby. I saw a wet bag tutorial at Little Birdie Secrets and wanted to try it. I thought how nice to have something cute to carry wet or soiled items. Then I decided to add a burp cloth. It was fun to do something a little different.

34 Days Until Easter

It is hard to believe that Easter is only 34 days away. Normally we have a few warm days by now. Maybe it won't be too much longer. I really liked the Easter basket. I think I need to change the colors a bit. I just had to do this applique even if I didn't have the fabric I wanted.
