A Good Little Traveler

We traveled around 650 miles today. A lot of you know that we have a little dog named Coco. He was super good today. We made several stops and you do get more exercise when you have to walk your dog. There were some beautiful irises in bloom at one of our stops. Calling it a day.

Making Flash Cards

I truly believe that once you're a teacher, you are always a teacher. I spent some time this afternoon making dolch word cards. I have been retired for seven years this May and I have spent five of those years tutoring children at school in reading. Now my husband and I are getting ready to go work with children in another area. That means I am getting my "teacher stuff" ready. I will put away my machines and craft things for a few days and get in the teacher mode. Who knows, I might just need to be an encourager or someone to give or receive an extra hug. Isn't that what good teachers do anyway? Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Baby Jack

Baby Jack will make an appearance this summer. My sister was visiting and so I had the gift ready. She wanted a burp cloth, bib and boxers for her friend's grandson. So that is just what I did. I know you must get tired of things I make for babies, but I do like to share them.

A Special Birthday

What does one get for a 90 year old lady's birthday? I guess a little attention and a lot of love is all one needs at 90. We have a special friend that turned 90 this past weekend and I wanted to do a little something for her. I used bright colors and a fun font for her kitchen towel. By the way, she still has those turquoise appliances from the 50's in her house. I hope she likes them, but most of all she likes a visit from time to time.

Pies

I love to make pies. The pies I make are so easy, but people love them. My chocolate pie is a favorite with women and the lemon is the choice for men. The chocolate pie filling is made in the microwave. I beat my egg whites a bit too much this time and they were very stiff. This made the meringue more difficult to spread. Overall the pies were enjoyed by everyone. By the way, most people think pies are so hard to make. If you want to try one, let me know and I will be happy to share my recipe.

Baby Gifts

I have two baby showers within the next two weeks. I needed to get the gifts ready because I will not be able to attend. I had more fun making the burp cloth and bib for Ethan. You see the two sand pails that will serve as gift bags. The other baby's name has not been revealed so his gift is more generic. What fun to make things for babies.

Secretary's Week

Next week will be the week we honor secretaries. This is a little something for our secretaries at church. I found the perfect ribbon to match the candles and I know you are asking why would she give an orange candle. I chose the candle because of the scent, cranberry mandarin. I have already been through three of these at my house. So let this post serve as a reminder to not forget those people who are secretaries.

Rosebuds

I was out watering this afternoon and couldn't help but take pictures of the rosebuds in my yard. The pink ones are miniature roses and the yellow ones are just some roses we have had for years.

Bibs, Bibs, Bibs

I have started making bibs and they have become so much fun. The ones that I am posting today are for Andrew, my great nephew. I was asked to make one for his first birthday and I made it reversible. I kept wondering what fabric would work for a little boy and it dawned on me that denim would be perfect. I hope he has a great first birthday.

Nifty Notebooks

A sweet friend gave me a special notebook a while ago and I loved it. I also thought that I could make one. After looking at hers and browsing the internet, I have made some for gifts. Here are the ones I have made. I needed a masculine one so I used the brown paper with no ribbon. The possibilities are endless. What a neat "happy" to brighten someone's day.

Beautiful Weather and A Bit of Sharing

We have worked outside all week. It has been beautiful weather with cool mornings and warm afternoons. Here is a picture of one of the flowers I planted. My mom had some like this when I was a little girl and I couldn't pass them up. When the other flowers begin to bloom I will post a picture of the entire flower bed.

I wanted to share a neat birthday party with you. My oldest daughter's college roommate's little girl turned one recently. GK mom's did a wonderful job with her first party, but I was so impressed with the birthday tablecloth. Go take a look at GeorgiaKateStuart. Good job, Kristin!

Herb Garden

I am trying something a little different this year. I made a herb garden. A friend gave me a starter kit for Christmas so I planted the seeds a few weeks ago. I talked to someone about a larger container for my garden and she suggested galvanized tubs from Lowes. I was told to drill holes in the bottom and along the sides of the bottom of the tub. My husband did that for me. After the container was ready to go I added the dirt and the plants. My little plants are still not very sturdy so you can see that they are falling over. I am hopeful in a few days that they will straighten up. Hopefully I will have parsley, cilantro, chives and oregano. How nice it will be
to have fresh cilantro for my salsa.

My husband and I worked in our front flower bed all this morning. We expanded it, added new border and I rearranged the flowers. We tried to get rid of all the monkey grass. We will see how long it takes for it to come back. I will post a picture in a few days.

Delicious Desserts

My family enjoys desserts, but like everyone else we don't need too many of them. I like to make something special when we have company. Fresh strawberry pie is always a springtime favorite. I added a chocolate dessert that my friend at The Polka Dot Giraffe shared with me. Both are good. I sent a lot of the chocolate one home with our daughter and her husband.

Belated Happy Easter

I pray that you all had a wonderful Easter. I have been having internet issues for the past week so I wasn't able to post anything. I didn't realize how much I would miss it.

My dear husband surprised me with a pewter tiered stand for Easter and I quickly decorated it before church yesterday. I am also posting the pails a friend decorated for me. Because of my dear friend, I purchased a Cricut and can do some neat things too. I had fun filling the pails even if they were for adults.
